The Beginning of a People.
My husband Hastings tells me how his father used to have his family read the Bible together and sing hymns every day after dinner. And I also know Hastings’s father took his family to church every Sunday. I believe that my sons, Lewis Alexander II and Shawn, were prayed through to know the Lord Jesus way before they were born from both their father's side of the family and mine. From my side of the family, my grandfather believed in Jesus’ way before many people of his generation in that part of the world. As a chief, he used to house pastors to ensure that the Word is preached to his subjects.
I, however realized that L.A. and Shawn are living in a different era, where the Word of God is not received kindly by this generation. The Word has become offensive to many people of their generation. I realized that I could not just leave it to chance that my boys will walk in the light of the Word. I prayed, “Lord, let my boys be a beginning of a new people; a people who will live on Kingdom principles; be generational curse breaker.” God answered my prayer and gave me Psalm 112 – which I termed, "The Beginning of a People". Meaning, let them inherit ONLY Godly things from the generations before them. I started to believe that everything the Lord says about them is true. I took them to Sunday School based on Pro 22:6 - "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it". I knew that the Word of God can not be broken; no matter what they go through in life, they will eventually come back to their God. We talk about the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob because He is a generational God. The Bible say He shows His goodness to thousand generations. He wants us to know that if we're in covenant with Him, He blesses and takes care of us so that we can be a blessing just as He promised Abraham.
Nevertheless, I realized that God has no grandchildren, the boys should know the Lord for themselves. My prayer had always been, “Lord send harvesters to the boys' path.” I always wanted to be a good Christian example at home. I stood on Deuteronomy 11:19; I asked the Lord to teach them Himself Isaiah 54:13. I asked Him to give L.A. and Shawn dreams and vision; give them a purpose for their lives; be with them in process of coming up with dreams; so they can leave a legacy that can be picked up by the next generation.
